This section of the chapter has started to change the idea
of how to write a paper in my mind. Basically
it is saying that I need to try to think of it as a conversation that I am
having with someone else such as a class mate or someone more random. Imagine being at a party and you stumble upon
a group of people talking about a subject that you are familiar with. Almost every time you won’t try to add your
opinion until you know more or less what the particulars of the conversation
are. Once you give your opinion to a
conversation it gives other people a place to go with the conversation.
To have a good conversation you must be active in listening
and remembering what other people have said up to this point. This will help you to give valid points and
arguments and not just repeat something that someone else has already said. Once you learn and practice the art of having
a good conversation with people it will be much easier to begin to write an
essay be it for a class or for something to do with your job.

Writing a good paper or having a good conversation also
requires you to know who your audience is.
You can then gauge how technical you can be or in depth with your
conversation topic. If your audience
understands what you are talking about, you can then talk to them with
technical terms and things but if you do not know your audience it is best to
assume that people know nothing about your subject.
