If you like cars then Top Gear is the show for you. This is a show that originated in the UK and
was only aired on a channel called BBC.
The whole purpose of the show is to tell the good and bad points of
cars, new and old. This show is a huge
hit in Europe so The History Channel decided that they would start their very
own version right here in the good old USA.
Just as there are three hosts in the British version there are three in
the American version as well. They are
Tanner Foust who is world renowned rally car and drift car driver, Rutledge Wood
who is a NASCAR analyst, and Adam Ferrara who is an actor and comedian. In every show there is always a challenge that
the three of them have to do. Each one
usually chooses a vehicle from a different manufacturer and competes in whatever
the challenge may be. I’m not really
sure sometimes if the different cars are actually better than others sometimes
because the driving skills of the three hosts are way different. This doesn’t seem that it is really an accurate
representation of the cars abilities.
Usually whoever wins the challenge gets to drive something else. For example last week’s episode had each one
of the hosts choose a different tractor and they had to see which one was
better and the winner would get to drive a Lamborghini Aventador. I knew from the beginning that tanner was
going to win the challenge because it just didn’t seem like the show would want
one of the other guys to drive the car.
And that turned out to be true.
This just goes to show that sometimes the show is very predictable in
what is going to happen and who is going to win. When the show aired for the first couple of
season’s every episode they would bring a celebrity on the show and they would
talk about the cars they used to have and what they have now. After this they would let them go out on the
race track that the show has and the celebrity would race around the track in a
car which was the same for all the people that went on the show. For some reason they quit doing this in the
season that is on now. I think this was
a really fun interesting part of the show and it doesn’t make any sense why
they stopped. Also in every episode they
used to have a driver called the “stig” who no one knew who he really was and
he would take all of the cars that they drive in the challenges around the
track for a time, this they stopped doing in the current season as well. I think that Top Gear is a fun entertaining
show but sometimes the comparisons of the cars don’t seem accurate because of
the driver’s skills. I would recommend
this as a fun show to watch either way.
When writing an evaluative essay you need to state the criteria you will describe your content with. After you have criteria to make judgments with then you can start describing the content itself. "Top Gear." Your essay is entirely a description of the show. First you should create a thesis statement and introduction. This should include an overview of your show and a plot. Then state criteria you would use to judge a show and evaluate it. Next you will describe events in the show and support facts and evidence you base judgement off of. You can also include quotes from the show or quotes that movie/tv show reviewers use as criteria. Lastly come to a conclusion of the show. An overall evaluation with a judgement of good or bad. Or compare it to other shows.
ReplyDeleteThis evaluation does a good job of describing what the show Top Gear is about. The audience gets the hat the purpose of the show is. There are not really any statements or ideas in this blog that are saying whether or not this show has “succeeded or failed”. You say what you feel about the show and how much you like it but there is no evaluation of the content of the show anywhere in your text. You do state that you do like the show, but you can add how it can be better or the reasons why it doesn’t meet your standards. You should try to use different sources other than the show itself. If you bring in quotes or reviews that others have posted about Top Gear, then that creates a criteria. I did understand the parts about the show that you liked but there was no real judgment. It is hard to say whether I have an opinion or not about the show. I can not say that I agree or disagree with what you are saying in your blog. I have never watched an episode but whether or not I have, it is difficult to find your evaluation of the show.
ReplyDeleteAlright, so this entry does a nice job telling us pretty much what we can expect in each episode of Top Gear, however the manner in which it is described is extremely simple and offers no evaluation. The only evaluation given is that you would recommend the show as fun to watch. This entry really has no comparison when there is an obvious one to use which would be the British version of the same exact show. Even if people do think this is a fun show to watch it really doesn't compare to the English version because of how predictable and bland it has gotten along with the simple fact that everything America copies from England loses all uniqueness. So I can say that I really don't like the American version of Top Gear due to its lack of originality and poor analysis/use of vehicles compared with its English counterpart. However I don't know whether or not this opinion disagrees with you or not because of the lack of personal evaluation. The description was very straightforward and any reader could understand what the show is about from this entry, but nobody would really get a sense of whether they should watch it or not due to this lack of personal opinion. Overall this was a concise and to the point description of Top Gear with very little else to offer.
ReplyDeleteAh i remember the first time i saw "Top Gear" i was so confused and was so curious on how so many people can watch a show about a bunch of British dudes playing with cars. This show is one of the most popular shows of all time though. People have watched this show for the last 12 volumes and are still continuing to this day. i really like how you went in depth about how the English version is the dominant one and how it is the best and its true. this tv show is still around and it still makes tons of money and all they do is drive around and make cars look super awesome. I liked the way you wrote this you really have put thought into this and you obviously have some passion for this show and for cars it definitely comes out in your writing. Although I never really thought this show to be very popular but this show like I said and like you said already is a very popular tv show and has been around forever and will still be around for many seasons and many years to come.
ReplyDelete"Top Gear" is a top notch show. Both the British and American versions. It is a fun show to watch and captivates car lovers attentions for the whole episode. This show is loved by every nation and has been watched for year after year. I like how you went in depth and told a summary about every single host. Your summary about Tanner is my favorite because it gives a very good background analysis of him. It is true that the shoe is a bit predictable about who wins based on the cars that they can win to drive. You explained about the “Star in a reasonably priced car” part of the show very well. I wish you would have compared it to the British version and why you think it is superior and better. Stig is more than one person due to the fact that it is a new one every season, at least it is for the British version. They usually reveal who he is at the end of every season. The jokes they say while he drives the car are some of the funniest parts of the show, especially when they are playing odd music for him. I think you also should have said that they also let you know if you should buy the car or not because saying that they “tell the good and bad points of cars, new and old” is not descriptive enough to me
ReplyDeleteTyler, Your blog was very insightful, especially since I’ve only seen the show a few times and didn’t really have a grasp on what it was about. However, your blog post seemed to be a lot of explanation about the show, which is an important part of a review, but shouldn’t make up most of it. You also seemed to focus a lot on what used to be on the show. As interesting as the show may have been in the past, it is no longer relevant in a review. That is, of course, unless you’re writing a review on a past season of the show. In which case, the reader would be interested and care about what used to be on it. There also did not seem to be much reviewing going on in your paper. I suggest that you be more critical of the show in your next review and not just praise it and what it used to be. Ask yourself what makes the show so great and why. What about the show made it so interesting that it started airing in the United States? I feel as if this is a question that you could go into much detail about instead of just mentioning that fact. Most importantly, you should be asking yourself if there are any flaws with the show, and if so, point them out. It is important that your reader gets an idea of the pros and cons of the show so they can make a more informed decision on whether to watch it or not. As an ending note, try to break up your review a little bit more, as one large paragraph seems a pretty daunting. Overall, you did a very nice job on your review. Good luck on future assignments!

ReplyDeleteTyler, your blog describes top gear pretty well. Your blog consists of the review and many details that should not make up most of this evaluation. Another good thing that you have written here is about the numerous characters that are always introduced in this show. Top Gear is a great British show that talks about all these great cars and even goes on to test drive, and crash test them. I suggest to include some details from the critical aspect of viewer. The reader may get bored as they keep reading about all the good point the show has to offer. Also maybe include why they tried to start an an American version? The American version is also not too bad but i would prefer watching the British one over it any day. It is entertaining, education as well as witty. I have seen several episodes but i don't really watch it regularly. Overall you did a good job describing Top Gear review and were concise to the topic. Nick work and good luck!
